High School Band Concert

In 2004 and 2005 I was touring with the Pixies. I was a co-founder of two music companies that recorded and sold concerts on CD. One of the members of the crew who I became good friends with shared with me the most amazing recording from a high school band. It was the stuff of legend; something everyone else had already heard and couldn’t stop talking about. I can’t say too much more about where the band is from, or why the recording was available, but I can say this: I knew the moment I heard this recording that I wanted to produce & sell this record.
Everyone who heard the tape loved it, though no one could explain why. Maybe it’s the screaming fans? The pratfall? The earnestness of our emcee? It doesn’t do much good to explain it, the best thing to do is to simply listen. I purchased the recording and we sent it to get mastered, a job that was completed on November 19, 2005. After that, life got in the way. The original plan was to put High School Band Concert out on CD, packaged in one of those old-school cardboard boxes three times bigger than the CD itself, designed to fit into a record store’s old record shelves. But before any of that happen, the project stalled, and the master recording has sat on my bookshelf. Until now.
